DRAGON QUEST! The critically acclaimed JRPG franchise that won Japan over in the nostalgia fueled days of the Nintendo-

What? Its' not that Dragon Quest? Oh right, MLP...

Alright, a Spike episode. And one with a promised "Quest" at that. Personally, I'm not holding my breath that there will be any "questing" in this episode. Not after the constant trend of "slice o' life" episodes we've been seeing. So let's all meet back here to discuss the episode after it airs! Hey, maybe it will be better than what I'm expecting.

Episode end!

Okay, so it was more epic than I thought. Had a lot of interesting plot threads for future episodes. Some thoughts...

*Morally, this episode is questionable. I get the outside message of not giving in to peer pressure, etc. But then there is the pony side of the message, in that "You should coddle & smother your child as much as possible, especially when he pushes you away emotionally." Finding Nemo this episode ain't.

*Guess Fluttershy didn't learn her lesson from "Dragonshy."

*I'm predicting a "now you're a man" PMV in the near future. This fandom is so easy to read!

*Spike gets his own pet named Peewee! ...Of which he basically kidnapped and is forcing some strange Stockholm syndrome/Goddamned Batman & Robin relationship on the baby bird.

*This episode raises a lot of questions about Spike's background, which is never, ever answered. Who are is parents? How did his egg fall into pony hands? Why doesn't he have wings? I'm guessing it's some sort of Batman gambit of Celestia's doing.

*Speaking of Celestia, PONY GOD EMPEROR WHOM THE SUN RISES & SETS ON THEIR WHIM = Pretty pony princess penpal to dragons. Hmmm... Methinks there's something the dragons know that ponies don't know.

*And just what was written on that letter Celestia wrote to Spike??? Moar unanswered questions!

All in all, a better episode than the last 2~3 episodes we've seen so far. Still, it's questionable back-handed morals and unanswered questions leave much to be desired in this episode.

The Phoenixes left the fuck out the forest to save their lives. It was obvious they weren't coming back either,so I really doubt Spike would leave the egg there to be properly killed by the dragons.
